Every kid needs a rope swing.

This weekend we were invited to Mr. Maker’s Dad’s house for a Halloween party. While there, I came to the conclusion that every kid should have the chance to swing on a rope swing, soaring high enough to reach the tree branches. Please look at these faces and tell me you could disagree!!

Too bad we don’t have any trees taller than 15 feet in our yard! We might have to move to a farm sooner than we thought! Ha!

Spreading the T-Shirt Dress Love

As I alluded to in the previous post, I probably need to limit the number
of dresses I make myself out of t-shirts.

So what else was this Momma to do but spread her mania to the little ones in her house??? :)

Plus, I’m happy to report, no squabbling over this one.
In fact, pure excitement elicited from Big when she saw hers.
(Little loves hers too, I just got it done a day later & haven’t gotten a picture yet.)

But! I still have quite the pile of t-shirts. . .  :)

The Battle

You may not notice by looking at this dress or the smiling girl in it,
but it has been the source of a great battle this summer.

Rainbow Dress

In an attempt to purge my closet, be resourceful with what I have, and make some pretty darn cute clothes for the girls, I began turning t-shirts I wasn’t wearing into fun tunics for the girls back in May.
I thought they’d LOVE them.

I was wrong.

This dress for instance started out without the rainbow. But Big said she hated it, refused to even try it on, and that if I had purchased it at a store she would like it. (After which feelings were hurt – mine.) On numerous occasions I attempted to coerce either child to wear the dress that I wished fit me because it was so incredibly awesome, always to be met with the same results: Dress still in the dresser drawer – or on possibly 1 or more occasion, the trash can. . . – and me with my feelings hurt (I’m human!).

I’d ask her why she didn’t like it:
“The blue is too dark” (while wearing one of her favorite dresses in the same shade)
“The sleeves need to be longer”  (even though she lives in strap-py dresses during the summer)
“Maybe if there was an animal on it”
“It itches!!!!” (before even getting it over her head)

In an effort to entice the younger crowd to agree with me & wear the blasted thing, I made a few modifications before entirely giving up – though I may or may not have had thoughts of putting it on a hanger, attaching tags from another purchase & bringing it home in a Target bag if it didn’t work.

Enter the rainbow.
I thought I had a winner. The previously awesome dress had just reached a new level.

Still nothing.

I tried to be the bigger person. I’ve got nearly 30 years on them, so I figured I had to. Tried to just let it go. . . but always have it within sight for when they picked out their clothes, just in case.

Weeks passed.
Nothing.

But this weekend!!!!! Big finally caved. And I even got an “I like this dress!” later in the day. So maybe I’m a bit ridiculous, but I really feel like I’ve won some sort of battle. Perhaps I’ll even finish the other dresses I have nearly done in my sewing room now. . .

Or is that pushing my luck?

Little Greek Goddesses

Toga Party at school!!
Which meant that this crazy Mommy felt the need to dress her little beauties in more than a sheet.

And when they had enough posing, they turned to this.

Just what Cleopatra would have done, don’t you think?

An Awesome Book

I was just given An Awesome Book. You can tell it is awesome just from it’s title. (It’s actually called An Awesome Book.)

A co-worker of mine handed it to me for my kids when I walked into work this morning. As he was telling me about it, he had this expectant look on his face and I was actually kind of worried that it was a joke and something was going to jump out at me! But as soon as I had a minute to give it a read I understood his look. This book is incredible & I can’t wait to go home and read it to my girls! It’s full of wonderfully imaginative illustrations and a poem about dreaming big—like dreaming about “rocket-powered unicorns” instead of owning matching silverware.” The author originally wrote the book for his own five-year-old son and decided to have it printed up.

You can read the entire book online—and you should, right now!!! But don’t forget to purchase a copy for yourself, your kids and maybe a few more for gifts as this would make a great gift for all sorts of people: little kids, graduates, newlyweds, your parents. . .you get the idea. :)

But another reason to buy the book is that for every book purchased, the author will give one away!! Sounds like a pretty good way to spread high and lofty dreams!

So what are your big dreams that seem like they might be too big to come true?
“Then once you’ve got that in mind please dream a million more. . .”
Maybe if we all start dreaming big, and encouraging each others’ dreams, we just might start turning some dreams into reality.

xoxo—Lori
